Sony Shuts Down Bluepoint Studio
Feb 22, 2026

In a major blow to PlayStation’s first-party lineup, Bluepoint Games is reportedly shutting down. According to industry reporter Jason Schreier, the Austin-based studio famed for its high-fidelity remakes, will officially close its doors in March 2026.

Staff Impact: A PlayStation spokesperson confirmed to Bloomberg that approximately 70 employees are being laid off.
The Reason: The move follows a "recent business review," a corporate shift that has claimed several projects and studios over the last year.
Official Statement: Sony praised the team for their "technical expertise" and "exceptional craftsmanship," thanking them for their contributions to the PlayStation ecosystem.

Founded in 2006, Bluepoint earned a reputation as the industry’s premier "remaster house" before being acquired by Sony in 2021. Their portfolio includes some of gaming's most celebrated remakes:
Shadow of the Colossus (2018): A ground-up remake that set a new visual standard for the PS4.
Demon’s Souls (2020): A PS5 launch title that showcased the true power of next-gen hardware.
Classic Collections: High-definition ports of God of War, Uncharted, and Metal Gear Solid.
While Bluepoint was recently pivoting toward original content, their momentum stalled after PlayStation canceled their live-service God of War project in January 2025.
