Quake Celebrates 30th Anniversary With Free 'Dawn of the Machine' Campaign Update

To celebrate 30 years of the genre-defining arena shooter, MachineGames and id Software have released Dawn of the Machine, a brand-new campaign episode for Quake. Announced during the QuakeCon welcome stream, the expansion is available right now as a free update for all existing Quake owners.

Building on MachineGames' previous work in Dimension of the Past and Dimension of the Machine, this anniversary update traps protagonist Ranger inside a dimension of shifting illusions. To break free from the endless cycle, players must navigate reality-bending realms and hunt down the mysterious Nightmare Machine.

Here is everything packed into the Dawn of the Machine update:

  • 19 New Campaign Maps: A sprawling single-player campaign featuring labyrinthine level design and a dedicated episode hub.

  • Looping Campaign Structure: A dynamic progression system where returning to levels unlocks new paths, hidden secrets, and fresh encounters.

  • New Arsenal and Foes: Face off against deadly variants of classic enemies using upgraded weapon variants inspired by original Quake expansions.

  • Soundtrack and Multiplayer Additions: Includes a brand-new soundtrack, a new deathmatch map, and three new achievements.

Quake and the free Dawn of the Machine update are available now across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch (including Switch 2 compatibility), and PC.
