Shroom and Gloom Hits Steam Early Access September 10

Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Team Lazerbeam have announced that first-person double-deck-builder Shroom and Gloom will launch in Steam Early Access on September 10, 2026. Combining hand-drawn art with 3D dungeon crawling, the roguelike tasks players with battling grotesque fungal creatures using a unique dual-deck mechanic.

Dual-Deck System and Core Mechanics

The game centers on managing two separate decks to navigate through dark subterranean environments and defeat enemies:

  • Explore Deck: Used outside of battle to search rooms, break obstacles, unlock doors, ignite environmental objects, and interact with dungeon elements.

  • Combat Deck: Used in battle to fight, burn, and devour fungal enemies standing between the player and the underground domain known as The Gloom.

Cards in both decks can be upgraded and modified infinitely, allowing starting actions to scale into high-tier attacks or rare cards to evolve into powerful abilities.

Culinary Combat and Early Access Details

Combat features a culinary twist where every defeated enemy can be processed into consumables. Players can season, roast, or eat fallen foes on the fly to regain health, or combine ingredients in cooking pots to brew status-altering soups.

Alongside hundreds of cards, meta-progression systems, and a playable demo currently available on Steam, Team Lazerbeam released a new developer diary detailing the game's design ahead of its September 10 PC launch.
