Resident Evil Requiem Is Getting New Story Content

Capcom has officially confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem is a massive hit, crossing 5 million sales in record time. To celebrate, game director Koshi Nakanishi shared a roadmap for what’s coming next to the survival-horror epic.

Here is the breakdown of the upcoming content:

New Content & Updates

  • Photo Mode: A free update coming "very soon" will let you capture and pose your favorite horror moments.

  • New Minigame: Scheduled for May 2026, this surprise mode is widely expected to be the return of the fan-favorite Mercenaries mode.

  • Story Expansion: A major paid DLC is officially in development. Nakanishi teased that it will "delve deeper into the world of Requiem," though he asked fans for patience as it will take some time to complete.

PC Performance Fixes

Capcom hasn't forgotten about technical issues. A recent patch specifically targeted PC players to address several launch-day hurdles:

  • RTX Optimization: Significant performance boosts (up to 16%) for players using RTX 40 and 50 series cards.

  • Stability: Fixes for "system freezes" and crashes during certain cutscenes.

  • Path Tracing: Improvements to the heavy ray-tracing settings to make them run smoother.

During the announcement, Nakanishi shared some "fake" DLC ideas to poke fun at community memes, including:

  • "Forbidden Requiem": A joke dating sim focused on Leon S. Kennedy's mysterious wife.

  • RE Match-Three: A Resident Evil-themed puzzle game (like Candy Crush).

  • Cat DLC: An image showing protagonists Leon and Grace as literal cats.

With 5 million sales in its first few weeks, Requiem is now the fastest-selling entry in the series. Whether you're waiting for the May minigame or the story DLC, Capcom clearly plans to support this one for the long haul.

Since the series is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the success of Resident Evil Requiem feels like a perfect victory lap for Capcom. While previous games like RE7 and Village expanded their stories with new perspectives (like Chris Redfield or Rosemary Winters), Requiem is already setting records before its first DLC even arrives.
