Kingdom Hearts IV Set for Late 2027 Release with Coco World and Original Anime Series Revealed at D23

Square Enix and Disney & Pixar Games have officially confirmed that Kingdom Hearts IV is targeting a late 2027 release window. Revealed during the D23 2026 Disney Entertainment Showcase, the announcement was accompanied by a new extended trailer highlighting a brand-new world inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Coco, alongside news of an original anime adaptation expanding the franchise's reach.

The announcement formed part of D23’s "DEEP DIVE into KINGDOM HEARTS" panel, which celebrated 25 years of the crossover franchise by bringing together creative leads and voice talent to look back at its legacy—and chart its immediate future.

A Journey to the Land of the Dead and Beyond

The newly released trailer gives fans their first extended look at how Kingdom Hearts IV incorporates the world of Coco. Sora is shown exploring the colorful verticality of Plaza de la Cruz, interacting with characters like Miguel and Hector, and taking on Heartless swarms with a new guitar-inspired Keyblade transformable for high-speed combat.

Beyond the Coco realm, the footage sheds light on Sora's predicament within the realistic city of Quadratum, where dark forces continue to cause disruption. Meanwhile, long-time companions Donald Duck and Goofy are seen searching for Sora alongside Hades in the Underworld, and King Mickey Mouse ventures into mysterious territory seeking answers to Sora's location. For the first time, players will be able to take control of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy as playable characters in dedicated segments of the game.

Original Anime Series and Supported Platforms

Expanding the universe further, Square Enix announced that an original Kingdom Hearts anime series (working title) is currently in development for Disney Channel and Disney+. Series creator Tetsuya Nomura is directly collaborating with Square Enix’s creative team on the project.

Kingdom Hearts IV will launch in late 2027 across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with pre-orders and wishlist options opening across digital storefronts following the showcase.
