FINAL FANTASY XIV: Evercold Reveals Bastion Job and FFVII Raid

Square Enix has revealed new details about FINAL FANTASY XIV: Evercold, the game’s upcoming sixth expansion, during the FAN FESTIVAL 2026 in Berlin keynote.

Launching in January 2027, Evercold will introduce a new story arc, new areas, gameplay improvements, and the first new playable job: Bastion.

Meet Bastion, the New Tank Job

The first new job coming with Evercold is Bastion, a main tank class that wields two powerful greatshields known as Skyltborg.

The job was revealed alongside a new trailer showcasing its defensive combat style and abilities.

New Features and Gameplay Changes

Evercold will introduce several changes designed to give players more freedom in how they experience the expansion’s story and world.

New additions include:

  • A more flexible main scenario structure, allowing players to choose different paths and areas to explore.

  • Auto Content Balancing, which adjusts enemy levels and difficulty based on player progression.

  • Character Action Skins, allowing players to customize animations for actions like Teleport and Warp.

  • Expanded character customization options, including more color choices and facial customization.

Players will also explore new areas in the Icebound Realm of the Fourth, including Naglfar, Hringhorni, and the new city of Fargarth.

INAL FANTASY VII Crossover Raid Announced

Square Enix also revealed Beyond the Lifestream, a new eight-player raid series inspired by the FINAL FANTASY VII Remake trilogy.

The crossover is being developed by both FINAL FANTASY XIV and FINAL FANTASY VII Remake teams to create a unique raid experience for players.

In addition, the previously announced EVANGELION - Ghosts of Desire alliance raid series received a new teaser trailer, with director and animator Mahiro Maeda joining the project as a guest artist and designer.

FINAL FANTASY XIV Arrives on Nintendo Switch 2

Square Enix confirmed that FINAL FANTASY XIV Online will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, 2026.

The Switch 2 version will include the Free Trial, Starter Edition, Complete Edition, and Dawntrail expansion, with pre-orders now available.

New players will also receive an approximately one-month free subscription period following launch to help ensure server stability.

More Updates Coming

Additional content revealed during the keynote includes:

  • A major Chocobo Companion System overhaul arriving with Patch 8.1.

  • Expanded matchmaking through Same-Region Player Matching.

  • A new FINAL FANTASY VII-themed Gold Saucer mini-game called Keybound Brawler.

With more than 30 million registered players, FINAL FANTASY XIV continues to expand with new content ahead of the launch of Evercold in January 2027.
