The Elder Scrolls Online Launches Return of the Thieves Guild Season

The Elder Scrolls Online has officially launched Season One: Return of the Thieves Guild, bringing new story content, events, and gameplay features to players on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.

Running until October 21, the new season will deliver multiple content drops throughout its duration, including the return of the iconic Thieves Guild storyline, a new adventure featuring the Daedric Prince Sheogorath, and the experimental High Seas of Tamriel event.

As with all ESO Seasons content, these updates are available free to all players.

The Thieves Guild Returns After Nearly a Decade

Season One begins with the first major Thieves Guild story expansion since the original 2016 storyline. The new chapter continues the guild’s narrative and takes players to Glenumbra in High Rock.

Players who completed the original Thieves Guild storyline will receive additional dialogue options and unique interactions throughout the new content.

The update also introduces Favors, a new type of daily quest available through Freerunner’s Post Boards across each alliance. These missions send players across Tamriel to meet familiar characters and follow ongoing stories, with special rewards available for completing each story arc.

Alongside Favors, Dynamic Encounters are being added to the world. These multi-stage events appear naturally during exploration, allowing players to join simply by approaching the encounter and taking part in unfolding story-driven moments.

Sheogorath and New Adventures Arrive This Summer

On July 29, players will begin a new chaotic adventure with Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness.

The fan-favorite character will attempt to experience mortal life, leading to a strange and unpredictable journey filled with his trademark humor, madness, and plenty of cheese.

Later in the season, on September 21, players will explore the Nowhere Vault, a mysterious space between realms connected to the Thieves Guild storyline.

The new area will introduce:

  • A new playable location filled with secrets and lore.

  • Puzzle-based challenges.

  • New traversal mechanics not previously seen in ESO.

The same update will also introduce Rumors, a new exploration-focused activity inspired by classic Elder Scrolls quest design. Players will follow hidden clues across Tamriel without relying on map markers or UI guidance, bringing back the feeling of discovery from games like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

The September update will also add:

  • Crimson Veldt, a new 12-player trial.

  • Improvements to the Antiquities system.

  • Additional quality-of-life updates.

High Seas of Tamriel Event Brings Naval Exploration

From September 30 to October 14, players can experience High Seas of Tamriel, ESO’s latest experimental event.

Taking place on the Gold Coast, the event introduces new gameplay elements, including:

  • Naval combat.

  • Underwater exploration.

  • New ways to travel and survive across the environment.

Players will need to adapt to these new challenges as they explore parts of Tamriel never experienced before.
